Flip the Coin

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about FlipTheCoin

🌐 General Questions

A: Yes! The app uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator. The results are just as random as flipping a real coin (when bias is set to 50%).

A: No! It runs directly in your web browser. Just open the HTML file or visit the website.

A: Mostly yes! Once you've loaded the page once, it can work offline. However, if you refresh, you'll need internet to reload resources.

A: Yes! Completely free to use.

📊 Statistics Questions

A: They're saved in your browser's localStorage on your device. They stay there until you:

  • Click the "Clear" button
  • Clear your browser data
  • Use private/incognito mode

A: Yes! Click "Export" to download your statistics as a JSON file. You can then email or share this file.

A: Reasons could be:

  • You haven't flipped enough times (need 100+ for accuracy)
  • Bias setting is not at 50% (check Settings)
  • Just unlucky! With small numbers, weird splits happen

A: After many flips (100+):

  • 50% heads, 50% tails = Perfect fairness
  • 45-55% range = Normal variation
  • Below 40% or above 60% = Check your bias setting!

🎨 Customization Questions

A: Currently you can have one custom theme at a time. To change it, upload new images in Settings → Custom.

A: Easy! Just open Settings and select "Classic Gold" or "Silver" instead of Custom.

A: No, only static PNG or JPEG images are supported. The coin's 3D spinning provides the animation!

A: It depends:

  • Regular browsing: Yes, they're saved
  • Private/Incognito mode: No, they're lost when you close
  • If you clear browser data: No, they're deleted

đŸ’ģ Technical Questions

A: WebGL is a technology that lets browsers show 3D graphics (like our coin). Most modern browsers support it. If yours doesn't, the app will offer 2D mode instead.

A:

  • 3D Mode: Realistic spinning coin, beautiful graphics, smooth physics
  • 2D Mode: Simple flip animation, still works for getting results, but less pretty

A: Very little! The app is under 1MB including graphics. No constant internet connection needed.

A: No! Everything happens in your browser. No data is sent anywhere. Your statistics stay on your device only.

📱 Mobile Questions

A: Yes! Fully optimized for mobile devices. Tap the coin to flip!

A: Haptics = vibration. When enabled, your phone vibrates when you flip. Makes it feel more real!

A: 3D graphics can be demanding. Try enabling "High Performance Mode" in Settings to speed it up.

A: On some browsers, yes! Look for "Add to Home Screen" in your browser menu if the app supports PWA.

🤔 Decision Making Questions

A: The coin flip itself is completely fair and random (when bias = 50%). However, for truly important decisions, you should probably think carefully rather than rely on random chance! 😊

A:

  1. Flip three times
  2. Count how many heads vs tails you got
  3. Whichever has more (2 or 3) wins!

Example: Heads, Tails, Heads = Heads wins (2 to 1)

A: Yes, but that defeats the purpose of a coin flip! If you want, set bias to 100% (always heads) or 0% (always tails) in Settings.

🎉 Fun Questions

A: Mathematically, infinite! But realistically:

  • 3 in a row: Common (~12% chance)
  • 5 in a row: Rare (~3% chance)
  • 10 in a row: Very rare (~0.1% chance)
  • 20 in a row: Extremely rare (1 in a million!)

A: Not in this app! Real coins can theoretically land on edge (about 1 in 6000 chance), but we don't simulate that. You'll always get heads or tails.

A: Two possibilities:

  • You're incredibly lucky! (Chance: 1 in 1,267,650,600,228,229,401,496,703,205,376)
  • You accidentally set bias to 100% in Settings 😉
